Ananta at Gamescom 2026: What Opening Night Live Delivered

Ananta's Opening Night Live segment landed a January 15, 2027 release date, a live Steam page and open pre-registration. What it did and didn't confirm.

Ananta’s Opening Night Live segment ran on August 25 and ended with a global release date: January 15, 2027. It came with a Launch Date Trailer, pre-registration opening across PC, PlayStation, iOS and Android, and a Steam store page going live the same day. The announcement was billed as “a fresh look at the game” and delivered considerably more than that.

The last dated item has now run too. Ananta appeared on IGN’s gamescom studio Day 4 on August 29, and it produced a NetEase executive interview and IGN’s own hands-on impressions — but no new trailer and no new announcement.

And that hands-on settles something this page had left open for two weeks. Two named outlets now say, each in their own words, that they played a gamescom build. The show floor question is separate and still answered the same way: NetEase’s August 11 line-up never named Ananta, and nothing since has.

The verbatim launch post from @Ananta_EN:

“Pre-registration for ANANTA is now available on all platforms! Thank you for your patience and continued support. The wait is finally over, and the story of a new city is about to unfold. Available Platforms: PC (Official Website / Steam) | PlayStation | iOS | Android. We can’t wait to see you in Chongxiao and Nova City on January 15th, 2027!”

A sourcing note worth carrying: the Steam page itself still reads “Coming soon” with no date attached, and its system requirement fields are TBD. January 15 is published on the official website and the official X account, not on the storefront.

Full detail on the date, the platform rollout and what remains unannounced: Ananta Release Date.

How the ONL appearance was announced

It was announced by Geoff Keighley, who runs the show, on August 18. His post reads, verbatim:

“Swing into the vibrant streets of ANANTA. Catch a fresh look at the game live on the #OpeningNightLive stage next Tuesday, August 25. Watch the global livestream at 8p CEST / 2p ET / 11a PT.”

That is a first-party confirmation from the event organizer rather than a listing or a leak, and it was picked up the same day by Final Weapon (“NetEase Games and Naked Rain have confirmed”), GamingBolt, Vice, and NetEase’s own 163.com platform, which gave the Beijing time as 02:00 on August 26.

When it starts, everywhere

Keighley’s announcement points to a global livestream at that time; ONL is streamed free worldwide and runs about two hours, with Ananta’s segment falling somewhere inside it — running order is not published in advance.

What “a fresh look” promised, and what it turned out to be

“A fresh look” was the organizer’s phrasing, not NetEase’s, and it committed to new footage and nothing else — this page said so for the week between the announcement and the show, and that reading was the correct one to hold at the time. A stage slot is not a release date, and publishers hand out ONL segments to games that are a year out.

It went the other way. The segment produced a Launch Date Trailer and a dated global release, which is the maximum a showcase of that kind can produce. That is worth recording precisely because the opposite outcome was the safer bet: NetEase had declined to name a window five days earlier on its own earnings call.

What IGN’s gamescom studio Day 4 produced, August 29

Ananta was one of eleven titles on IGN’s Day 4 line-up, billed as “more exclusive reveals and developer interviews.” It landed on the interview side of that pair, not the reveal side. Two pieces came out of it, both published by IGN on August 29:

PublishedWhat it is
12:47 UTC”Ananta Is Weird, but Is It Good? — We Played It” — IGN’s own hands-on impressions of the gamescom build, presented by Simon and Michael
14:52 UTC”Why Ananta Isn’t a Gacha Game” — an interview with Riten Huang, GM and Marketing Head at NetEase Games, covering setting, traversal, combat and monetisation

What did not happen: a new trailer, new gameplay footage, or any new announcement. The broadcast footage was material already shown. Four days after a release date, a launch trailer and a full storefront rollout, that is the ordinary outcome — the news had already been spent on August 25.

The monetisation angle is not new information either, though it is newly on camera from NetEase itself. That Ananta does not gate characters behind gacha has been the studio’s position since September 2025, when producer Ash explained the reasoning to Denfaminicogamer — as rendered in English by AUTOMATON West, the team wanted players “to be able to choose between characters freely,” so characters are “obtainable through means that are not gacha.” Treat the wording as a translation, not as a quotable English original. What gamescom adds is not the policy but its survival: a GM restating it on camera five months from launch, after the budget was spent.

What this page will not do: quote what Riten Huang actually said. The interview is a video, it still had no captions of any kind when this was last checked on September 1, 2026, and paraphrasing an executive on monetisation is exactly the kind of thing that goes wrong. If it is quoted here later, it will be verbatim from the transcript.

⚠️ This is not hypothetical. Chinese-language outlets attributed a figure to this interview: that Ananta will ship with around 100 hours of content at launch (17173 on September 1, 163.com on August 31, both sourcing it to IGN’s conversation with the development team). No IGN article carries that figure, and the video it points at cannot be quoted.

Update, September 21: a quotable figure does now exist — from a different outlet, in text, and it does not say what those outlets said it says. That is worked through below.

The “100 hours” figure, now that there is something to check it against

A second gamescom interview surfaced on September 14, 2026, published in Japanese by AUTOMATON. Unlike IGN’s, it is a written interview, so it can be quoted. Asked how large a city map is, the NetEase representative answered:

「実世界のように正確な数値でマップの大きさをお伝えすることは難しいかもしれません。ただたっぷりボリュームがあります。プレイ時間は、プレイヤーがどのようにゲームを楽しむかによって変わります。もし望むのであれば、100時間以上をかけて、ゲームの中で私たちが作り上げた世界をじっくり体験していただくこともできます。」

In English, as a rendering rather than a quotable original: giving an exact figure for the map is difficult, but there is plenty of volume; playtime depends on how you play; if you want to, you could spend over 100 hours taking your time with the world we built.

Three things that is not.

  1. It is not “100 hours of content at launch.” It answers a question about map size, and it is phrased as a conditional offer to the player — a ceiling you can reach if you choose to, not a quantity being shipped. Those are different claims and only the second one is a spec.
  2. It is not a whole-game figure either. AUTOMATON framed the exchange per city, which is the opposite end from the Chinese reading. But the developer’s sentence itself says “the world we built in the game” and no follow-up in the published text pins it to one city or to both. Two cities are confirmed, so the arithmetic some outlets have run — 100 × 2 — rests on a distinction the source does not make.
  3. It is not a number the outlet itself is still leading with. On publication day the headline carried 「各都市100時間は遊べるボリューム」 and same-day aggregator copies still show it that way; the live AUTOMATON page as of September 21 reads 「各都市たっぷり遊べるボリューム」, with the figure appearing exactly once on the page, inside the quote. We are not going to guess at why. We are noting that the number moved out of the headline and staying with the quote.

So the figure is on this page as what it is — a developer’s conditional remark about map size — and the “around 100 hours of content at launch” framing is not repeated here, because the primary source contradicts it.

What the same interview does settle

The no-gacha policy is now quotable in text, which is what the box above was waiting for. Asked how the game monetises, the representative gave a three-part answer: the game is free to play and costs nothing to play; it deliberately does not use the character gacha common to the genre, because “if you had to pay to obtain a particular character, you could not say all players were being treated fairly”; characters are obtained free as the story progresses; and cosmetics are the paid element. Again a rendering of Japanese, not a quotable English original.

This does not change what the site says — the no-gacha position has been on record since September 2025. What it changes is the sourcing: it no longer rests on an uncaptioned video or a translation of a translation.

One genuinely new item: asked whether Ananta is single-player, the representative said the current story and maps may make it feel that way, but that a multiplayer mode is also in development, details to come. That has been carried across to the FAQ, where the answer had stood at “not confirmed” since 2023.

The show floor is a separate question — and there Ananta is still unnamed

Gamescom 2026 runs 26–30 August 2026 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany — the largest games event in Europe by attendance. NetEase Games is confirmed on the floor: it was named in the late-July announcement that the show had booked out its exhibitor space, alongside Tencent Games, Konami, HoYoverse, Level Infinite, Bilibili, Nintendo, Xbox and Ubisoft. NetEase then published its own show line-up on August 11, and Ananta is not in it.

ONL confirmed does not mean floor confirmed. Publishers routinely put a trailer on the ONL stage without putting the game on a booth, and NetEase has not said Ananta will be playable or present at Koelnmesse.

The August 11 line-up: what NetEase actually named

The publisher press release covers three booths:

Titles namedLocation
Marvel Rivals, Where Winds MeetHall 7.1, Booth B-050
Sea of RemnantsHall 7.1, Booth A-051
Once Human, plus one unnamed titleHall 4.2, Booth D-050 — NetEase Games Business Area

Ananta is named nowhere in it.

One line in it is not closed, though. On the Business Area booth, the release says, verbatim:

“In addition to the titles mentioned above, 2 more playable games and media interview opportunities will be available at the NetEase Games Business Area in Hall 4.2, Booth D-050. Featured titles include Once Human, which will reveal details about its biggest expansion since launch, alongside an exclusive hands-on preview of a highly anticipated upcoming title.”

So there are two playable slots in the Business Area — one given to Once Human, one left unnamed, described only as “a highly anticipated upcoming title” with an exclusive hands-on. NetEase has not said which game that is.

Still speculation, and neither the ONL slot nor the release date settles it. Chinese-language forum threads have read that unnamed hands-on as Ananta since August 12; other guesses in the same threads point at different unreleased NetEase titles (《诡影藏锋》, 《归唐》). An ONL segment is not a booth slot, and a dated game is not automatically a playable one. There is no first-party support for any of these names.

A second-hand claim joined the pile on August 25: a TapTap post relaying a Bilibili account’s report that gamescom access to Ananta is a closed-door session for judges and core media rather than a public queue. Written at the time, that was a relay of an unnamed source with nothing behind it.

That one did get corroborated — by two outlets who played it

A playable Ananta build existed at gamescom 2026, and it was trade-side rather than public. Two named outlets say so independently, each describing their own session rather than repeating someone else’s:

OutletDateWhat they say
GameLook (CN trade press)August 28Reports that Ananta was placed in NetEase’s Business Area in Hall 4.2, open to press and industry for hands-on, and that GameLook played both the Tokyo and the Cologne builds. Chinese original: 「《无限大》此次被安排在网易位于4.2馆的科隆游戏展商务展区,主要面向媒体与行业人士开放试玩」— the English here is our translation
IGNAugust 29Verbatim, in English: “We finally got hands-on with Ananta … Simon and Michael break down the demo from gamescom 2026

That closes the question the August 11 press release opened. NetEase advertised “an exclusive hands-on preview of a highly anticipated upcoming title” in that exact booth and declined to name it; two outlets have now been through a hands-on in that exact booth and named the game themselves.

Three limits, because this is still not a first-party statement:

  • NetEase has never confirmed it. No release, no post, no line on any listing names Ananta at Koelnmesse. Everything above is press describing their own access.
  • It changes nothing about the public floor. The Business Area is trade space; a member of the public with a gamescom ticket could not queue for this. The section below on the show-floor evidence stands exactly as written.
  • The August 25 relay was still bad sourcing. It happened to be pointing at something real, which is not the same as having been reliable. The two things worth keeping are the outlets who played the game, not the account that guessed correctly.

Worth noting what NVIDIA did and didn’t say. Its gamescom 2026 announcement on August 25 gave Ananta a DLSS 4.5 trailer and named it among the games launching with ray tracing — and NVIDIA’s article lists show-floor booths in detail. Ananta appears in the tech announcement and in no booth listing.

What gamescom’s own database says

The strongest evidence on this question is not a press release. gamescom runs a product database, and every entry carries a booth field. Ananta has a page in it — gamescom.global/en/product/ananta, headed “Now on gamescom!” — and that entry’s booth field is empty.

An empty field proves nothing on its own, so here it is next to the two NetEase titles that do have booths:

ProductBooth on its gamescom entryVisibility tag
ANANTAnoneonl
Sea of RemnantsHall 7, A-051onl
Marvel RivalsHall 7, B-050

Sea of Remnants is the comparison that matters. It was on the Opening Night Live stage too, and carries the identical onl visibility tag — so the two entries were built the same way and by the same publisher. It has a booth recorded. Ananta does not. The field is populated when there is something to populate it with, which means Ananta’s blank is a real absence rather than a database gap. Ananta’s entry also has no scheduled events and nothing in gamescom’s on-site booking system.

The same limit applies here as everywhere else on this page. NetEase’s entry lists only its two Hall 7 booths — Hall 4.2, D-050 does not appear in the database at all, because the Business Area is trade space rather than public show floor. So this evidence answers the public-floor question firmly and leaves the closed-door question exactly where it was.

Worth knowing: Ananta has twice appeared at a partner’s booth rather than under its own name — a PlayStation booth at ChinaJoy 2025, and an AMD booth at Bilibili World 2026. An absent exhibitor listing has always been weaker evidence than it looks for this particular title, which is exactly how this played out.

The Reddit leak, settled line by line

Before the show, a Reddit leak circulated and was picked up by Vice: that the ONL demo covered two cities, that Ananta would launch on Steam, and that a media preview embargo lifts on August 26. Vice’s own report stated that NetEase had not confirmed any of it, and this page kept all three out of the factual sections until it did.

Two of the three are now official. Here is where each one landed:

Leaked claimStatus after ONL
Two citiesConfirmed. @Ananta_EN: the story “unfolds between Nova City and Chongxiao’s Lingyun City”
Steam releaseConfirmed. The store page went live on August 25 — app 4814120
August 26 preview embargo⚠️ Doesn’t match what happened. A press preview did run — but on August 25, and it was a virtual, hands-off event, not a show-floor hands-on

Two out of three does not retroactively make the source reliable, and the third is now the clearest illustration of why.

What the press actually got. RPGamer published an Ananta preview on August 25, and its own description of how it got there is the useful part, verbatim: “Ahead of its trailer premiering at Gamescom, RPGamer was invited to a virtual preview event to learn more about the game, its world, and gameplay loops.” The piece contains no hands-on language anywhere — no play session, no build, no demo — and it went up a day before the leaked embargo date, timed to the trailer rather than to the show floor.

So a press preview did exist, and the leak was in the neighbourhood of something real. But the two specifics it gave — the date and the nature of the thing — are both wrong: August 25 rather than August 26, and a remote presentation rather than a hands-on. Being roughly near a true event is what unreliable sourcing looks like from the inside, which is why this page kept it out of the factual sections.

The caveat this section carried has now expired, and it expired in the leak’s favour — partly. It said a second, floor-based embargo lifting later in the show was not ruled out. One did: GameLook played the Cologne build on August 28 and IGN published its own hands-on impressions on August 29, both covered above. So hands-on coverage did arrive — four days after the leak said it would, from a different kind of event than the one it described. The August 25 piece the leak was actually pointing at remains what it always was: a remote presentation with no play session in it.

What NetEase said on August 20

NetEase’s Q2 2026 earnings call happened on August 20 at 8:00 a.m. ET, five days before ONL, and Ananta came up twice — once in prepared remarks, once in analyst Q&A. No release date, window or quarter was given at either point.

The prepared remarks described Ananta as “progressing steadily towards launch as a free-to-play urban open world RPG.”

An analyst then asked management to update on Ananta’s development progress and on how NetEase plans to differentiate it from the other urban open-world titles in development. The answer came from CEO William Ding, speaking Chinese and translated live on the call:

“Ananta is well on track with its development as the team is now keep polishing the game experience. We’ll unveil the game’s latest progress at the Gamescom next week. So please stay tuned.”

(The wording is the call interpreter’s live rendering, not a prepared English statement.)

This is the first time NetEase itself confirmed the Gamescom appearance. Until then the only confirmation was Geoff Keighley’s August 18 post — the event’s organizer, not the game’s publisher. The call puts it on the publisher’s own record, and “the game’s latest progress” is a marginally wider promise than “a fresh look.” Neither commits to anything dated.

On the competition half of the question, Ding pointed to “the product’s unique identity, its theme and its gameplay design” as the differentiators. That is framing, not new information.

What it rules out: the two most substantive official comments of 2026 — May 21 and August 20 — both say the team is still polishing and neither names a window. Anyone reading “well on track” as a 2026 launch signal is adding something the call did not say.

How that reads five days later: it was the right call on the evidence available, and it still is. “Well on track” did not contain a date, and reading one into it would have been guesswork that happened to land near the truth. The date came from the stage, not from the call.

The rest of the run-up, in order:

  • August 20 — NetEase Q2 2026 earnings call. Done: “well on track,” Gamescom confirmed by the publisher, no date
  • August 25, 8:00 p.m. CESTOpening Night Live. Done: release date January 15, 2027, plus pre-registration and a Steam page
  • August 26–30 — the floor. NetEase is there; Ananta is still not named on its line-up
  • August 29IGN gamescom studio Day 4. Ran as scheduled. Produced an interview with a NetEase GM and IGN’s own hands-on impressions — no new trailer, no new announcement

Why Gamescom matters for Ananta specifically

Gamescom is where this game started. Ananta was announced at Gamescom on August 24, 2023, under its original working title, Project Mugen. Of every venue on the 2026 calendar, this is the one with the strongest claim on the title’s history.

That makes the return meaningful in a way a ChinaJoy booth wouldn’t be. Gamescom is the largest games event in Europe, and Ananta is confirmed for PC and PlayStation 5 alongside mobile — a line-up aimed squarely at Western players. The ONL slot landed on August 25, three years and one day after the reveal, on the biggest stage the show has, in front of the audience the game most needs to reach — and it is where the game finally got a date. Announced at Gamescom, dated at Gamescom.

The counterweight, which held right up until the segment aired: a stage slot is a marketing decision, not a development milestone, and publishers show games at ONL that are still a year out. In this case the marketing decision and the milestone happened to coincide. That is the exception, not a rule to carry into the next show.

ONL produced a date, so the rest of the calendar changes shape. Tokyo Game Show in September is now a pre-launch beat for a game four months out rather than a hunt for a window, and The Game Awards in December falls three weeks before release. Neither has been confirmed for Ananta.

What we were watching for, and what arrived

Ahead of the show this page listed four things that would make the segment matter beyond new footage. Scoring them honestly:

What we listedOutcome
A global release date or launch windowJanuary 15, 2027 — the strongest version of this
Platform detail — a Steam page or a PS5 dateSteam page live, plus PlayStation, App Store and Google Play listings
A second beta announcement and sign-up details❌ Nothing announced
New playable characters beyond the confirmed roster❌ No new roster additions in the announcement

Two of four, including the one that mattered most. The beta question is now the open one: a game dated for mid-January with no test announced leaves a narrow window, and nothing has been said about whether another one is coming.

Live update log

  • 2026-09-21A second gamescom interview surfaced, and it settles two of the three things this page had left open. AUTOMATON published a written interview with a NetEase representative on September 14, conducted at the same show as IGN’s. Because it is text, it can be quoted, which retires the constraint this page has been operating under since August 29. First, the “100 hours” claim: there is now something to check it against, and it fails the check. The figure is real but the framing is not — it answers a question about map size, conditionally (“if you want to, you could spend over 100 hours”), and “around 100 hours of content at launch” is not what was said. The per-city reading some outlets ran with is AUTOMATON’s framing, not a distinction the developer’s sentence makes; the figure is now on this page as the conditional remark it is. Worth noting separately: the number was in AUTOMATON’s headline on publication day and is not in the live headline as of today — we are not guessing at why. Second, the no-gacha policy is now quotable in text — free to play, no character gacha because paying for a specific character would not treat players fairly, characters free through story progression, cosmetics paid. That does not change the site’s position, which has been the same since September 2025; it changes the sourcing from an uncaptioned video to a written interview. Third, one genuinely new fact: a multiplayer mode is in development, no detail given — carried across to the FAQ, where that answer had read “not confirmed” since 2023. All of the above is rendered from Japanese and marked as such. Also from the same interview and written up on the TGS tracker: the representative said the Nova City map would be shown at Tokyo Game Show, which ran September 17–21 — no showing has been found.
  • 2026-09-01(Superseded in part on September 21: the “nothing to check it against” position below was correct when written and no longer holds — a quotable written interview has since been published. The conclusion did not change; the reasoning did.) Gamescom closed on August 30, and two things this page had left hanging are now settled. First, the Reddit leak’s last open thread: this page had said a second, floor-based embargo lifting later in the show was not ruled out, and one did arrive — GameLook on August 28 and IGN on August 29, both covered above. The leak was right that hands-on coverage was coming and wrong about both specifics it gave, which is the same verdict as before, now with the benefit of the full week. Second, the Riten Huang interview still has no captions, re-checked three days on, so the no-paraphrase rule holds. ⚠️ A new claim has appeared in the meantime and is deliberately not on this page: Chinese outlets attribute an “around 100 hours of content at launch” figure to that interview. No IGN article carries it and the video cannot be quoted, so there is nothing to verify it against. Also worth flagging for anyone comparing sources: several of those same Chinese pieces put pre-registrations at 15 million, below the 17 million in NetEase’s own August 25 English release — the official figure is the one used here.
  • 2026-08-29The last dated item ran, and a two-week-old open question closed with it. IGN’s gamescom studio Day 4 went ahead and produced two pieces, both published the same day: “Ananta Is Weird, but Is It Good? — We Played It” (12:47 UTC), IGN’s own hands-on impressions of the gamescom build, and “Why Ananta Isn’t a Gacha Game” (14:52 UTC), an interview with Riten Huang, GM and Marketing Head at NetEase Games covering setting, traversal, combat and monetisation. No new trailer, no new gameplay, no new announcement — four days after the release date, the news had already been spent. The bigger item is the first one. IGN’s own description says “we finally got hands-on with Ananta … the demo from gamescom 2026,” and GameLook had reported on August 28 that it played the Cologne build in NetEase’s Hall 4.2 Business Area, open to press and industry. That is two named outlets describing their own sessions, which retires this page’s August 25 position that the closed-door hands-on was “consistent but not corroborated.” Three things it does not do: NetEase still has not confirmed anything first-party; the public floor evidence below is untouched, because the Business Area is trade space; and the TapTap relay that guessed right was still bad sourcing when it was written. ⚠️ What is deliberately not written up: what Riten Huang actually said. The interview is video, its captions were not published at the time of writing, and paraphrasing an executive on monetisation is how errors get made — it will be quoted verbatim or not at all.
  • 2026-08-26Gamescom opened, and Ananta has one dated item left: IGN’s gamescom studio, Day 4, Saturday August 29 at 6am PT / 9am ET / 3pm CEST. IGN’s published daily schedule lists Ananta among eleven titles bringing “exclusive reveals and developer interviews” that day, alongside Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Persona 4 Revival and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Sourced the same way the ONL booking was — it is the broadcaster’s schedule for the broadcaster’s own programme, and NetEase has announced nothing about it. The floor question is unchanged and was rechecked on opening day: NetEase’s August 11 line-up page still does not name Ananta anywhere, and all three of its booths name specific games — Marvel Rivals and Where Winds Meet (Hall 7.1, B-050), Sea of Remnants (Hall 7.1, A-051) and the Business Area (Hall 4.2, D-050). NVIDIA’s August 25 article behaves the same way: it gave Tides of Annihilation a stand number (Hall 6, B-050) and gave Ananta a trailer and no location. One limit worth stating plainly: a publisher line-up covers the public floor, and Hall 4.2 is the Business Area — a closed-door or media-only session would not appear in it either way, so the absence cannot be used to rule out the TapTap-relayed claim. That claim remains without first-party support in either direction. Two further findings from opening day, both stronger than anything above: first, gamescom’s own product database has an Ananta entry with an empty booth field, while Sea of Remnants — same publisher, same ONL visibility tag — has Hall 7, A-051 recorded on its entry; the field is populated when there is something to populate it with. Second, the leaked “August 26 press embargo” does not match what happened: RPGamer’s preview went up on August 25, describing itself as “invited to a virtual preview event,” with no hands-on language anywhere in it. A press preview was real; the date and the format the leak attached to it were not. Both are written up in the sections above.
  • 2026-08-25Ananta has a release date: January 15, 2027. The Opening Night Live segment ran and produced considerably more than the “fresh look” it was billed as. Confirmed first-party the same day, on anantagame.com’s front page (GLOBAL RELEASE / JANUARY 15, 2027, with the site’s title tag updated to match) and by @Ananta_EN, which posted a Launch Date Trailer and announced that pre-registration is open on all platforms: “PC (Official Website / Steam) | PlayStation | iOS | Android.” The Chinese-language official site mirrored it. Alongside the date: the Steam store page went live (app 4814120, listed Free To Play and Windows-only), PlayStation Store, App Store and Google Play listings opened, the official site published pre-registration milestone reward tiers for the first time, and NVIDIA confirmed Ananta launches with DLSS 4.5 and ray tracing in its own gamescom 2026 announcement. The second city was named officially: the story “unfolds between Nova City and Chongxiao’s Lingyun City.” Two of the three circulating Reddit-leak claims are now confirmed — two cities and a Steam release — while the August 26 media embargo claim remains unconfirmed. Unchanged: the show floor. NetEase’s August 11 line-up still does not name Ananta, NVIDIA’s booth listings do not include it, and the Hall 4.2 hands-on slot is still unattributed; a TapTap post relaying a Bilibili account claims access is closed-door for judges and core media, which has no first-party support. Full detail on the date and platform rollout: Ananta Release Date.
  • 2026-08-24NetEase confirmed the Gamescom appearance itself on the August 20 earnings call, and still gave no date. Ananta came up twice: prepared remarks called it “progressing steadily towards launch as a free-to-play urban open world RPG,” and an analyst asked management for a development update and how they intend to differentiate it from rival urban open-world titles. CEO William Ding answered in Chinese, translated live on the call: “Ananta is well on track with its development as the team is now keep polishing the game experience. We’ll unveil the game’s latest progress at the Gamescom next week. So please stay tuned.” That matters for sourcing: until then the Gamescom appearance rested on Geoff Keighley’s August 18 post — the event organizer, not the publisher. It is now on NetEase’s own record. No release date, window or quarter was given, and the framing is the same “still polishing” language as the May 21 call four months earlier. Next: ONL, August 25, 8:00 p.m. CEST.
  • 2026-08-18Confirmed: Ananta is on the Opening Night Live stage on August 25. Announced by ONL host Geoff Keighley, who promised “a fresh look at the game” and gave the times as 8p CEST / 2p ET / 11a PT. Final Weapon, GamingBolt, Vice and NetEase’s own 163.com platform all reported it the same day; 163.com put it at 02:00 Beijing time on August 26. This is the venue this page called on August 14 — “if Ananta turns up at Gamescom 2026 with anything dated attached, the likeliest venue is not the show floor, it is Opening Night Live.” The floor question is unchanged and separate: NetEase’s August 11 line-up still does not name Ananta, and the unnamed Hall 4.2 hands-on slot remains unattributed. A Reddit leak reported by Vice (two cities, Steam, an August 26 preview embargo) is not confirmed by NetEase and is not treated as fact here. Next dates: earnings call August 20, then ONL on August 25.
  • 2026-08-14NetEase published its Gamescom line-up on August 11, and Ananta is not on it. The release names Marvel Rivals and Where Winds Meet (Hall 7.1, B-050), Sea of Remnants (Hall 7.1, A-051), and the NetEase Games Business Area (Hall 4.2, D-050), where two playable slots sit — one confirmed as Once Human, the other described only as “an exclusive hands-on preview of a highly anticipated upcoming title” with no name attached. This is the press release this page was waiting on, and it answers most of the question: Ananta is not part of the announced slate. It does not answer all of it, because of that one blank slot. Chinese-language forums have been guessing at it since August 12, Ananta among the guesses and not the only one — treat that as speculation, not a listing. Next hard date is unchanged: NetEase’s Q2 earnings call on August 20.
  • 2026-08-07Three weeks out, and the calendar around this show has firmed up. ChinaJoy closed on August 3 with no Ananta showing found, and nothing surfaced in the four days since. Two dates now bracket Gamescom: NetEase’s Q2 2026 earnings call on August 20 (announced August 6, 8:00 a.m. ET) and Opening Night Live on August 25 at 8:00 p.m. CEST. Neither has anything to do with Ananta yet — ONL’s line-up is unpublished and the earnings notice does not mention the game. Still no Ananta announcement of any kind for Gamescom itself.
  • 2026-08-02ChinaJoy came and went without an Ananta showing (tracker), which makes Gamescom the nearest remaining window. Confirmed on the Gamescom side: NetEase Games is on the exhibitor list, named in the announcement that the show sold out its exhibitor space — but no NetEase title was named with it, and there is still no Ananta announcement. Four weeks out.
  • 2026-07-29 — Gamescom 2026 dated by organizers: 26–30 August, Koelnmesse, Cologne. Ananta still absent from the exhibitor material.
  • 2026-07-28 — Page created. Ananta not found in published Gamescom 2026 exhibitor listings. NetEase reported present. Noting for context that the game was first announced at Gamescom on August 24, 2023, as Project Mugen.
