What is Ananta?

Ananta is a free-to-play open-world urban action RPG from Naked Rain, a NetEase Games studio. Set in the vertical modern metropolis of Nova City, it combines parkour traversal with real-time action combat. It was previously known by its working title, Project Mugen.

Every playable character is unlocked through the story — there is no character gacha — and monetization is cosmetic-only, so the game is completely free to play. Ananta is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, Android and cloud gaming, and its release date is January 15, 2027.

The date was announced on Aug 25 at Gamescom Opening Night Live, alongside a Launch Date Trailer and the first new footage since September 2025. Pre-registration opened on every platform the same day, the Steam store page went live, and NVIDIA confirmed the game launches with DLSS 4.5 and ray tracing. It arrives after a quiet summer: NetEase's Q2 earnings call on Aug 20 still named no window, ChinaJoy closed on Aug 3 with no showing found, and the previous outing was a partner's booth at Bilibili World in July running re-edited footage. Ananta is still not named on NetEase's Aug 26–30 show-floor line-up, and Tokyo Game Show (Sept 17–21) is the next window with nothing confirmed yet.
