Status: No release date announced. No new footage shown at any 2026 event so far — but a showcase slot is now booked. — Last updated: August 18, 2026
Ananta did not appear at Summer Game Fest 2026 (June 5–8), and in the months since it still hasn’t had a proper showing anywhere. That changes on August 25: Ananta is confirmed for gamescom Opening Night Live, announced August 18 as “a fresh look at the game.” This page tracks where the game actually stands: what NetEase has said, what it has skipped, and what is left on the 2026 calendar.
Where things stand right now
| Release date | None announced. NetEase has pointed at a 2026 window; no day, month or quarter has ever been given |
| Last new footage | September 2025 — the TGS 2025 gameplay trailer. Nothing since |
| Last playable build | TGS 2025 (public). Closed testing has run twice: an offline technical test in Hangzhou in January 2025, and a closed test in January 2026 |
| 2026 event showings | None. Skipped Summer Game Fest; appeared at Bilibili World only via a partner booth with re-cut footage |
| Most recent official word | NetEase’s Q1 2026 earnings call, May 21 — quality over speed, no date |
| Next scheduled official word | NetEase’s Q2 2026 earnings call, August 20, 8:00 a.m. ET. Date announced August 6 |
The short version: the game is not cancelled and not confirmed for any date. It has been in a quiet stretch since TGS 2025, and 2026’s event calendar has so far passed it by.
What NetEase has actually said about Ananta in 2026
The most substantive comment came on NetEase’s Q1 2026 earnings call on May 21, 2026, when an analyst asked directly how Ananta would break through a crowded open-world market — noting that rivals had shipped similar titles and that a heavyweight blockbuster was expected before year-end.
The response was given in Chinese and delivered through the company’s interpreter, so the English is an interpretation rather than a prepared written statement. The substance:
- On competition: “we do not shy away from competition, but our focus is more on differentiation.” The open-world category being crowded in 2026 was framed as evidence of a high ceiling and strong demand rather than a problem — “Competition in our industry is not a zero-sum game.”
- On what makes it different: Ananta is “built around an urban open world concept, which is fundamentally different from traditional open world RPGs.” The differentiation was located in everyday city activity — shopping, socialising, exploration, running businesses — rather than combat.
- On timing: “Right now, the team is focused on refining the game’s content quality.” Management said it would rather take the time to get the game right than ship something average in a rush.
- On positioning: NetEase explicitly said it does not consider Ananta a traditional anime-style game. The stated goal is “a genre breakthrough within the urban open world space, reaching players who are interested in the idea of freely living in the virtual city” — with art direction, narrative tone and gameplay design shaped for a broader audience. The answer closed: “The competition is real, but we are confident in the direction that we have chosen.”
In the prepared remarks on the same call, management listed Ananta among the pipeline titles that “remain on track,” describing it as “making steady progress towards launch.”
No release date, launch window, beta or event appearance was given on that call. Ananta is also not mentioned anywhere in NetEase’s official Q1 2026 results press release — the comments above came only in the earnings call itself, not the written results.
The next one is dated. On August 6, 2026 NetEase announced that its Q2 2026 results will be published on Thursday, August 20, 2026, before the U.S. market open, with the earnings call at 8:00 a.m. ET that morning (8:00 p.m. Beijing/Hong Kong time). Ananta is not mentioned in that notice — it is a scheduling announcement, nothing more. It matters for one reason: the May 21 call is the only place NetEase has said anything substantive about Ananta this year, and August 20 is the next scheduled occasion on which management takes questions on the record. Note what that venue can and cannot produce: framing, pipeline status and timing language, but never a trailer.
On pre-registration numbers: the official Ananta site runs a live global pre-registration counter, and it read 17,357,080 on August 2, 2026 — past the 17 million mark that outlets first reported in May. That is a first-party figure published by NetEase itself, and it is the clearest public demand signal the game has: sign-ups are still climbing through a stretch with no new footage and no date. No milestone rewards have been announced against it — pre-registration rewards remain TBA. See the pre-registration guide for how to sign up.
Every 2026 window, and what happened
| Event | Dates | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Summer Game Fest | June 5–8 | No appearance. No trailer, no date, no beta news |
| Bilibili World | July 10–13 | Appeared — but at an AMD partner booth, with a re-edited existing trailer and an itasha car. No new footage |
| ChinaJoy | July 31 – Aug 3 | Not a named exhibitor; no showing found across the full run |
| NetEase Q2 2026 earnings call | Aug 20 | Upcoming. Not an event showing — the next scheduled official comment window |
| Gamescom Opening Night Live | Aug 25 | Confirmed on Aug 18 — “a fresh look at the game” on stage, 8:00 p.m. CEST. No date promised with it |
| Gamescom | Aug 26–30 | Not a named exhibitor. NetEase Games is on the floor; no Ananta title announced |
| Tokyo Game Show | Sept 17–21 | Not confirmed. Ananta was playable at TGS 2025 |
| The Game Awards | December | Not confirmed |
That is the whole picture — and it is why “when is Ananta coming out” still has no answer. For the full timeline back to the 2023 Project Mugen reveal, see the release date hub.
What happened at Summer Game Fest 2026?
Ananta did not appear at Summer Game Fest 2026. NetEase made no Ananta announcements during the June 5–8 event window — no trailer, no release date, no beta news, and no character reveals. The game was never a listed part of the showcase, so this was a non-appearance rather than a cancellation or a pulled segment.
For why that absence means less than it looks, read what Ananta’s SGF no-show actually means.
Is the silence a bad sign?
Not on its own — but it is worth being precise about what is and isn’t known.
What’s genuinely reassuring: NetEase discussed Ananta at length on an investor call in May 2026 and called it on track in the prepared remarks — not how companies talk about projects in trouble. The game was approved for release in China in late 2024, closed testing has run twice, and on the February 2026 earnings call NetEase said the closed test’s metrics and player feedback met expectations. Pre-registration remains open across PC, PlayStation 5, iOS and Android.
What’s genuinely unresolved: there has been no new footage since September 2025, no second beta has been announced, and the game has now passed through four 2026 event windows without a showing. A publisher that intended to launch within the calendar year would normally be building visibility by now.
Both things are true at once. Anyone telling you the game is definitely launching in 2026 — or definitely not — is going beyond the evidence.

What’s next?
Four dated windows are left in 2026, and the nearest one is not a games show:
- NetEase’s Q2 2026 earnings call — August 20, 8:00 a.m. ET. The only window where Ananta is likely to be discussed on the record rather than shown. Detail above
- Gamescom Opening Night Live — August 25, 8:00 p.m. CEST, the night before the floor opens. Ananta is confirmed for it, announced August 18 as “a fresh look at the game.” This, not the show floor, is where publishers drop dated trailers at Gamescom
- Gamescom 2026 — August 26–30 in Cologne, the venue where the game was first announced in 2023 as Project Mugen. NetEase Games is a confirmed exhibitor; Ananta is not a named title
- Tokyo Game Show 2026 — September 17–21 in Chiba, where Ananta was playable in 2025
That timing note held: ONL line-ups and publisher show PR normally land one to two weeks before doors open, and the Ananta segment was announced on August 18, a week out.
If August produces footage but still no date, The Game Awards in December becomes the next widely-watched window — which is already where much of the community conversation has moved.
